  1. I sent clothes back via mail, especially shoes. The bike shoes had the clipless mounts inside the sole and ended up being the only thing I ever wore. I never did wear my running shoes but flip-flops were handy, light, and fit anywhere, even bungied to the top of a pannier. Jeans are way heavy and uncomfortable when wet and take a long time to dry..hiking pants were better all around and I could bike in them when needed.

    • And shame on me for not updating my gear page. I’ve pulled the jeans out of the line-up for just those reason, although in Latin America they easily do double duty as being your “Sunday Best”. I’ve settled on hiking pants as well. I am taking a bit more of clothes simply because it will be difficult to find my size SOB.

  2. enjoy your train ride. hope the smoke of northern california fires doesn’t follow you up through oregon. good luck. ziva misses you already. blessings, A&L
